From the moment she came bursting in to the world, our lives were turned upside down. Parenthood has been anything but easy and anything but typical. In the beginning, it was really hard. There were many tears, many fears. Being first-time parents wasn’t quite what we imagined but we rolled with the punches and hoped for the best. You were strong, stoic and reassuring all throughout our rocky start into parenthood. I really could not have done it without you by my side. Now as the months go on, it gets a little easier as our little miracle grows and thrives.

She is the joy of our lives’ and Daddy’s little girl. She loves her Daddy rocking her to sleep, she loves when Daddy sings her lullabies. She loves how Daddy makes her laugh and just how easily Daddy calms her cries.

Paul, you truly are an amazing father. So patient, strong and loving. You encourage, teach and comfort. She is one lucky girl to have you as her Dad. We are stronger with you and we love you so. Thank you for being our rock through thick and thin. Happy first Father’s Day. xo

The strongest men in the world aren’t made of muscle alone. Rather, they are fathers who stay the course when something goes awry with the children of their dreams.

35 Years On August 31, 2009

Today Mom and Dad celebrate 35 years of marriage. I consider myself lucky to have parents that have been together so long and weathered the many ups and downs that come with marriage. I think it’s even more impressive when you consider they met on a blind date. We’ve all heard about or had our own blind date horror stories but lucky for Mom and Dad, they were meant to be.

Their first date happened the day after Christmas in 1971. Mom and Dad were set up by their mutual friends, Diane and Kenny, and they all met at a piano bar at a hotel in Somerville, Massachusetts. Originally Mom didn’t want to meet Dad because the first date was scheduled for New Year’s Eve and involved a stay over in a hotel. Mom being the good Catholic girl that she is said NO WAY! After some hounding from her friend, Mom agreed to join the three of them at the piano bar where they all spent 10 hours singing songs and enjoying the evening. As the saying goes, the rest is history and 35 years later, Mom and Dad have two lovely daughters (if I do say so myself) and built a fantastic life together.

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad. We love you!

As I mentioned before, we celebrated Dad’s 75th birthday. It was a rather small celebration as we’re hoping to have a big party for him back in Boston some time soon. We went out for dinner at one of Dad’s favorite restaurants and we returned home to enjoy some cake and open presents. Dad got some nice gifts including tickets to a Red Sox game (against the Angels), a customized Red Sox shirt, clothes and tickets to see the magician, David Copperfield. Here are some much overdue photos of Dad’s big day.

We bought these musical birthday cards that when you open them up, they play a memorable song. I think Dad really enjoyed them… here are two videos of him singing along with the cards.
