What Is Wrong With People June 5, 2008

Last Friday, a 78-year-old man was struck down in a hit and run in Hartford, Connecticut. Unfortunately, the elderly gentleman is fighting for his life and is now paralyzed from the neck down. This incident alone is very disturbing but perhaps what is even more disturbing is that NO witnesses or bystanders stopped to help the injured man right after the incident. People just kept driving onward and bystanders gawked from the sidewalks. Not one person in this video went over to tend to the man or to stop traffic. At the end of the video, the police finally arrive but it’s not because the bystanders called 911, oh no. According to the police report, the police were in the area reporting to an unrelated call when they came upon the elderly gentleman.

Seriously, what is wrong with our society? I am completely disgusted and upset at the thought that no one helped. What if that was your father? Where has our human decency and compassion gone? What about doing the right thing? Are our lives just too important and busy that you can not stop to help out someone in need? I just can not get over the fact that people left the lifeless man lying in the road. Seriously, watch this video and see how long it takes before anyone even goes over to the victim. I am deeply saddened.
